Went on a river drift with Jeff. Had a very pleasant interaction with him and it was admirable to see Jeffs deep respect for the place and the wildlife. It was great to hear his efforts to conserve the bear population at the Bella Coola Valley. Very pleasant drift down Atanarko river and we were greeted by a grizzly mother and kid at the end.

Thank you Jeff for the incredible experience out on the water!!! A few hours spent with Jeff and it felt like we had known him for much longer! Great stories , important/interesting information about how important bears are and this man’s got a head on his shoulders!!! We didn't stay at the lodge, but we went on a 3 hour river raft with Jeff to see bears. It was an absolute highlight for us while in Bella Coola. Jeff cares deeply about the bears and the area. His knowledge is incredible and he is a very warm person. There is no hurry at all on the river and you just feel comfortable and well taken care of.

It was fantastic experience- bear safari with Jaff. He is nature lover and big professional. Great experience for us was to spend together 4 days. We saw walking, swimming bears, mom with cab…breathtaking mountain views. Every day early in the morning boat drift with Jaff on the river. And bear trails in the forest in the afternoon. Fantastic! Jaff is very interesting, clever person… to talk, discuss with him is s pleasure. Jaff cared about us like father :-))) and he is good chef… Jaff, your stakes were fantastic! Jeff, the owner of Great Bear Chalet went above and beyond to give us an experience of a lifetime. Truly a bucket-list experience. Jeff harmoniously lives with these wonderful animals and knows how to provide the best up-close experience without negatively impacting these bears while they feed on the plentiful salmon in the Bella Coola rivers. Great location inside Tweedsmuir Park. Very overpriced for what you get when comparing other local guides and places/combos that you can set up yourself. Food was great as well as the property is lovely. The room was a good size but without any window coverings on anything, including the washroom window, i felt uncomfortable. He has a young and reactive dog that he is passionately working with but at the time I was there she was very reactive to others presence and it was not easy to move about the home without upsetting her. You are not able to move about the property yourself as he feels this is a potential liability issue (not saying he is wrong but it is worth noting). Jeff is passionate about the local bears and is well acquainted with many of them but sadly I found the owner/operator very negative to be around due to his jaded view of the world in general (and very vocal about it). I had to cut my intended stay short and found other places to enjoy in the area. Bella Coola is an amazing area

We didn't stay in the Chalet but did have a picturesque and enjoyable raft tour with Jeff. Jeff runs small rafts which means that you aren't crowded into a raft with loads of other people. We saw bears, eagles, and salmon but, most importantly, Jeff's ecological and wildlife knowledge made the hours on the raft fly by!
